Vision Academy @ Riverside Middle School:

A middle school located in one of Indianapolis’s most underserved communities, Vision academy @ Riverside (VAR) is a tuition-free, K-8 public charter school currently in its sixth year of operation. We are a diverse collection of families, educators and volunteers committed to equipping our students with the strongest possible preparation for success in Indianapolis’s most demanding, college-preparatory high schools.

VAR employs a rigorous and engaging curriculum aligned to state standards as well as the Core Knowledge scope and sequence of learning topics. Our teachers use a wide breadth of effective instructional strategies, innovative tools and technology and a variety of services to challenge and support students to meet ambitious academic goals. We find creative, engaging ways to involve parents in our work helping students build not only their academic skills but also habits of curiosity, kindness, focus and persistence essential to college and life success.

The Position

VAR Middle School is looking for a skilled, knowledgeable, hardworking School Counselor or School Social Worker, dedicated to helping our students develop their academic skills and social and emotional wellbeing. In addition, he/she will be responsible for helping all students prepare for high school and beyond. The VAR School Counselor or Social Worker will work with students individually, in small groups, and large classroom settings. He/she will also work to support our families and help them prepare their children for school and life-long success, as well as providing the families with additional supports when needed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will meet the following qualifications:

  • Valid Indiana certification in area of School Counseling or Social Work, Masters Level
  • Experience with Program Development and Planning in School Counseling or Social Work
  • Capacity to provide social, behavioral and academic support for students from diverse socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Skills and experience in working with and guiding parents, grandparents and guardians to effectively support their child’s academic and social emotional development
  • Excellent writing and overall communication skills.
  • Cooperative, energetic, innovative and effective in a fast-paced, collaborative and entrepreneurial environment
  • A goal orientation, high standards and ample initiative
  • In agreement with the mission statement and goals of Vison Academy @ Riverside
