Adelante Schools seeks highly motivated, mission-oriented, reflective teachers to serve as the founding Art Teacher in a turnaround school setting.

We seek teachers who know that all children are capable of excellence, who are committed to continuously improving curriculum and instruction, who are hungry for feedback, and who are always looking for ways to more effectively reach and inspire our students every day in the classroom.

Uniquely, we seek teachers who are dedicated to being on a founding team of turnaround school teachers. We are looking for teachers who, in close partnership with their principal, grade-level teammates, skills teacher, and many others, are eager to do the heavy lifting of identifying skill gaps in their students and filling them—all while teaching grade-level content and inspiring their students to greatness.

 

Job Description

Adelante’s Art Teacher is passionate about teaching and programs that build a long-term love of fine art in students. The Art Teacher holds primary responsibility for teaching Art and developing and managing enrichment programs that extend the curriculum. The Art Teacher is passionate about designing and implementing a developmentally appropriate are program in a classroom setting that instills core habits that help students succeed academically.

 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Researches, designs, and/or documents standards and curricula for general Art for students
  • Teaches multiple sections of general Art each day
  • Works with other fine arts colleagues to design, supervise, and implement all aspects of the school’s general Art program, including coordinating with outside providers and vendors, maintaining records, participating in required training and certification processes, etc.
  • Works with classroom teachers to ensure the integration of academic instruction and Art instruction, particularly for the school’s Wit & Wisdom reading curriculum
  • Participates in the collaborative curriculum development process
  • Provides consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior to ensure that students observe the school’s core values, high expectations, and code of conduct
  • Shares responsibility for grade-level and school-wide activities
  • Communicates effectively with students, families, and colleagues
  • Engages families in their students’ education, including involving families in periodic student art exhibits
  • Participate actively in department meetings, faculty meetings, and other meetings, including an annual three-week summer staff orientation and training
  • Provides appropriate supervision of students during class, breaks, meals, specials, and transitions to maintain an optimal work environment and to ensure students’ safety and well-being
  • Assists in coordinating the school’s celebrations and Community Meetings
  • Attend and participate in events outside of normal school hours (e.g., family nights, student performances, field trips, report card nights, Teacher-Parent Conferences, etc.)
  • Consistently demonstrate belief in and alignment with Adelante’s core values and educational philosophy
  • Assist in the purchase of the school’s Art equipment and materials
  • Monitor and maintain the school’s Art equipment and materials
  • Serve as the primary source for reading coverage
  • Is present and engaged at the school from 7:10 AM to 4:10 PM, Monday-Friday
  • Plays a vital role in supporting the school’s academic programming as a pull-out reading teachers
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player
  • Eagerness for constant observation and feedback
  • Desire to grow professionally
  • The deeply rooted belief that children are capable of reaching the highest bars we set for them
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred
  • Valid Indiana State certification or proof of reciprocal licensure in a different state is required. Applicants in Indiana State-approved alternate certification programs must provide proof of enrollment.
