Overview
Adelante Schools is a non-profit school management organization in Indianapolis, Indiana, building a network of outstanding public schools in the city serving families with students in grades K-8. Our mission is to create joyous neighborhood schools, preparing all scholars to graduate from college, and lead lives of leadership and service to Indianapolis. We do this work in unity and solidarity with our families and communities.
Adelante Schools seeks highly motivated, mission-oriented, reflective teachers to serve as Lead Elementary Teachers in a turnaround school setting.
We seek teachers who know that all children are capable of excellence, who are committed to continuously improving curriculum and instruction, who are hungry for feedback, and who are always looking for ways to more effectively reach and inspire our students every day in the classroom.
We are looking for teachers who, in close partnership with their principal, grade-level teammates, and many others, are eager to do the heavy lifting of identifying skill gaps in their students and filling them—all while teaching grade-level content and inspiring their students to greatness.
Specific Responsibilities
- Implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards
- Implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards, and use assessment data to inform instructional practices
- Engage in regular training with school leaders to benefit from targeted, in-the-moment feedback on instruction
- Participate in collaborative curriculum internalization practices, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions
- Provide consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior
- Be accountable for students’ mastery of academic standards
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
- Attend and participate in events outside of normal school hours (e.g., family nights, student performances, field trips, report card nights, Teacher-Family Conferences, etc.)
- Participate in an annual three-week summer staff orientation and training
- Is present and engaged at the school from 7:10 AM to 4:10 PM, Monday-Friday
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom
- Proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom
- Mastery of and enthusiasm for academic subjects
- Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player
- Eagerness for constant observation and feedback
- Desire to grow professionally
- Deeply rooted belief that children are capable of reaching the highest bars we set for them
- Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred
- Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public district school or urban public charter school setting.
- Valid Indiana State certification or proof of reciprocal licensure in a different state is required. Applicants in Indiana State-approved alternate certification programs must provide proof of enrollment.
