Herron Classical Schools is seeking highly-motivated candidates to serve as the Head of School at Herron Preparatory Academy. Serving 180 students in grades K-3 for the 2022-2023 school year, HPA will move to it’s permanent site near The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis in the fall of 2023. At full enrollment, HPA will serve 750 students, grades K-8.

The Head of School provides overall leadership to school operations and manages the processes through which teaching is conducted, administered, evaluated and furthered. The Head of School is a member of the Executive Leadership team and reports the Vice President, Academics.

Specific objectives and responsibilities of the position include:

  • Supervise all teaching faculty.
  • Work collaboratively with Instructional Coaches to onboard new teaching faculty to ensure new teachers are fully trained on Herron Classical Schools’ philosophies, methodologies, and systems.
  • Work with faculty to ensure classroom practices provide the best possible opportunities for student learning and successful completion of required testing.
  • Develop systems for instructional interventions that contribute to a productive, academic environment.
  • Work collaboratively academic leadership to evaluate teacher effectiveness and to provide instructional support and coaching to the faculty.
  • Provide both non-evaluative and evaluative data and continuous feedback about teacher performance, consistency, and accountability.
  • Develop and implement performance improvement plans for faculty as necessary.
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the academic leadership team to establish academic data accountability systems.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely supports are implemented for students performing below standard level.
  • Ensure appropriate systems are implemented to address the achievement gap for underperforming populations.
  • Ensure students and teachers are prepared for all standardized and local testing.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership to provide the faculty with professional development consistent with Herron Classical School’s mission and core values that will enhance teaching and leadership skills and will meet the needs of a culturally diverse student population and a variety of learning styles.
  • Assist with programs for faculty recruitment, hiring, development and retention.
  • Supervise discipline, school counseling, school operations/safety, parent communication, community engagement/enrollment, and budget management of the school.
