The Neighborhood Charter Network (NCN) is a grassroots organization that launched in 2016 in order to manage a growing family of schools in Indianapolis, IN. The mission of The Neighborhood Charter Network is to expand educational equity to the communities we serve.

Job Summary:

The Special Education Teacher plays an essential role in ensuring all of our students have the support they need to be successful. The Special Education Teacher delivers both small group and one-on-one academic and behavioral intervention.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provides direct and indirect instruction of students in and outside of the classroom
  2. Employs special education instructional strategies and best practices.
  3. Teaches socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the students’ individualized education programs (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.
  4. Modifies the general education curriculum and provides accommodations for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
  5. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  6. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.
  7. Collaborates with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) designed to promote students’ educational, physical, and social/emotional development.
  8. Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  9. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
  10. Provide crisis intervention, as needed
  11. Assist in the collection of data for providing appropriate classroom interventions.
  12. Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.
  13. Other duties as assigned and outlined in the NCN Special Education Scope of Work.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Has a passion for the mission and values of Neighborhood Charter Network, enjoys working with staff, and has a genuine love for children.
  • Has a dedication to helping children grow and learn
  • Holds a valid Indiana Teacher Certification in Special Education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of Article 7 and the Indiana IEP system
  • Knowledge of and experience in providing Specially Designed Instruction in both general education and special education settings
