Job Summary: 

The School Counselor is responsible for providing a comprehensive school counseling program that supports NCN students’ personal and social development. The School Counselor acts as a liaison between the student, family and teachers. 

This is an IPS innovation, charter school.

Essential Job Responsibilities: 
  1. Develop and Implement behavior plans based on knowledge of restorative practices, mindfulness techniques, and proactive behavior de-escalation strategies for students, and proactively find ways to integrate these into the classroom with teachers and students. 
  2. Provides individual and small group counseling to students on various topics.
  3. Provide guidance on developing character in the classroom. 
  4. Develops and maintains open dialogue with families receiving counseling/therapy services. 
  5. Participates in biweekly MTSS meetings with teacher teams and supports implementation of tiered supports.
  6. Participates in the monthly school-wide attendance committee (as needed). 
  7. Provides resources and support to families in need of housing, food, transportation, medical assistance, and mental health. Responsible for referring students to therapists.
  8. Collaborates with the Student Support team to implement behavior plans and safety for students.
  9. Monitors and supports the implementation of our Second Step curriculum.
  10. Works collaboratively with the SEL Team and MTSS guiding coalition to support quality implementation of programs.
  11. Works collaboratively with the counseling team to create a comprehensive counseling program for students and the school.
  12. Investigate all bullying reports and keep records of investigations.
  13. Provide information to staff regarding child abuse/neglect laws and safety concerns. Support staff in making DCS reports if necessary.
  14. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications: 
  • Master’s Degree
  • Valid Counselor, Social Worker or Therapy License
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • 3+ year of related experience counseling students
