Edison School of the Arts is a free public K-8 Performing Arts and Arts Integration School that serves the city of Indianapolis. We currently have approximately 600 students and are located just across White River from Lucas Oil Stadium.   

Position Description:

Edison School of the Arts is currently looking for a full time music teacher to teach a variety of music classes to students in grades K – 8.  The role of the music teacher is to provide engaging and excellent instruction in all daily instructional classes. Current middle school elective classes are choir, music history, and musical theater.  Elementary classes are choir and general music. This position requires a strong belief in music literacy, utilizing the Kodaly and Orff Schulwerk approaches. The music room provides a full Orff instrumentarium, and Edison provides an accompanist for choir and musical theater classes. Training for Kodaly and Orff will be provided if needed. Edison School of the Arts has a large arts department, where each member of the arts team must be dependable and capable of meeting communicated deadlines, as well as, be flexible and work together as a team.  Many performances are required in the evening and during the school day. 

Education & Qualifications:

Strongly recommend a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Teach daily music classes by grade level for students in grades K – 4
  • Teach combined middle school electives  grades 5 & 6 and grades 7 & 8
  • Teach an elementary choir enrichment performance group of multi-level grades 1 – 4
  • Teach a middle school choir enrichment performance group of multi-level grades 5 – 8
  •  Opportunity to become the musical director of the yearly spring musical

Duties and  Responsibilities:

  • Arrive to work on time daily
  • Prepare detailed daily lesson plans
  • Use appropriate classroom management skills to maintain control of the class
  • Remain in communication with administrators including checking email daily
  • Utilize organizational skills to stay prompt in deadlines
  • Communicate effectively with parents and students
  • Assist in planning and execution of performances
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings
  • Provide advance notice if you are unable to attend work
  • Dress appropriately for the type of class you are teaching
  • Communicate concerns with administrators immediately
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of Edison School of the Arts
  • Work as a team player with co-workers in all departments

Salary:

Beginning teacher salary is $50,400 with opportunities for extra stipends for evening performances and spring musical.
