FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE – Substitute Teacher

SIGN ON BONUS OF $500, paid after first 100 hours worked!!

This position offers flexible hours during the school day, Monday – Friday.  Substitute teachers are part of the ICS “Sub Pool” and can accept or decline any offers to sub based on their availability once in the pool.  Candidates may specify a preference to work with certain age groups or on certain days of the week. 

Purpose of Position/Summary:

The substitute teacher will follow prepared lesson plans to allow continued learning and instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.  Substitute teachers float to each of the three ICS school buildings to cover absences on an as-needed basis. Coverage by substitute teachers can be planned or unplanned, depending on the specific needs of our schools.

 Job Duties:
  • Work in a classroom setting with students in grades K-12

  • Use of Google suite to assist with classroom learning

  • Follow prepared lesson plans

  • Maintain discipline and a learning environment

  • Ensure teaching/learning goes on during the teacher’s absence

  • Complete written, detailed reports that are left for the teacher at the end of each day

  • Leave classroom in order at end of the day

  • Knows and follows classroom rules

  • Knows and follows school expectations

  • Executes duties of teacher rather than placing responsibilities on student assistant

Job Qualifications:
  1. Candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent

  2. Superior verbal and written communication skills

  3. Proven positive experience working with children

  4. High degree of flexibility for work dates, times and school location

  5. Experience working with at-risk student populations preferred

  6. Must be hardworking, dedicated to the success of students in an urban school setting

  7. Willingness to obtain a substitute teaching license from the State of Indiana Department of Education
