Teach Indy wouldn’t exist without the guidance and support of our Educator Advisory Committee (EAC). This dedicated group of Marion County teachers works hard to further our mission by providing meaningful feedback and insights on all events, priorities, and programs.


Meet the Committee


Jake Taft

Hello, I’m Jake Taft. I’m an eighth-year economics and psychology teacher at Beech Grove High School. I’m dedicated to fostering a love for learning and critical thinking skills that extend beyond the classroom. I enjoy integrating real-world examples into my lessons and work to create a collaborative learning environment for my students. My wife and I are both educators and we reside in Indianapolis with our two daughters. I hold BA and MS degrees from Indiana University and I’m passionate about economic education.

Heather Houston

My name is Heather Houston. I am an 8th grade Teacher of Record for math at Longfellow Middle School. I have had the privilege to teach and touch lives in the classroom for 7 years. 

Cynthia Diaz

Hi! My name is Cynthia Diaz and this is my 10th year in Education. I have spent the last decade teaching in Indianapolis and Chicago Public School districts. I see teaching as the most powerful way to impact change amongst the next generation. I currently teach at Enlace Academy.

Markila Hall

My name is Markila Hall.I’ve been teaching for four years, and a mentor teacher for two years. Currently, I work at Vision Academy at Riverside! My why is centered around my upbringing. All children deserve access to a high quality education. The bar of expectations should never be lowered because of one’s economic status or zip code, but instead used as a driving force to ensure that every child gets what they need.

Carlos Jimenez

My name is Carlos Jimenez, I am from Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. I have been living in Indiana for 3 years. I currently teach at Global Preparatory Academy. I teach Spanish Language Arts to 7th grade and 8th grade and I teach Science to 6th grade. I have been teaching for 12 years now. I have been teaching from elementary school level to University level. My teaching field is languages, grammar, and literature.

Mi nombre es Carlos Jiménez, soy de Tampico, Tamaulipas, México. Vivo en Indiana desde hace 3 años. Actualmente doy clases en Global Preparatory Academy. Enseño Artes del Lenguaje Español a 7mo y 8vo grado y enseño Ciencias a 6to grado. Llevo 12 años enseñando. He estado enseñando desde nivel primaria hasta nivel universitario. Mi campo de enseñanza son los idiomas, la gramática y la literatura.

Julie Busch

Hello. I’m Julie Busch and I’m in my eleventh year of teaching Elementary Education. This is my fifth year teaching 3rd grade at IPS William McKinley School 39. Outside the classroom, I play an active role in my school community, both as a coach and volunteer. I am passionate about teaching and serving my school community! I serve on my school Leadership Team and help to lead my school in partnering with local organizations such as Keeping Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. and Big Green.

 

Tangelica Duplessis

Hello, I’m Tangelica Duplessis. I am a 2022-2024 Teach Plus Indianapolis Equity Change Agent, a Teach Indy Educator Advisory Committee Member and math teacher serving all seniors in jeopardy of not graduating at Lawrence Advance Academy in Indianapolis, Indiana. I currently teach Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry, emphasizing the critical thinking and problem solving skills that translate into real world situations. In the 2018-19 and 2022-23 school years, I was named Lawrence Advance Academy’s Teacher of the Year. I began teaching as a 2012 Indianapolis Teaching Fellow after working in accounting as my first career. I earned my Bachelor of Business Administration – Accounting from Howard University (Washington, DC), an MS in Accounting – Controllership from Strayer University (Washington, DC), and an MA in Teaching from Marian University (Indianapolis, IN).

Megan Fulkerson

I’m Megan Fulkerson. I currently teach 2nd grade at Guion Creek Elementary School in Pike Township. This is my 7th year in education. I view teaching as one of the most powerful ways to positively change the trajectory of students’ lives.

Aysha Ali

Hey I’m Aysha! I serve as the Lead Second Grade Teacher and Grade Level Chair at Allegiant Prep Academy in the Haughville neighborhood. I chose teaching because representation is being compassionate enough to push through the barriers that not only affect me, but our students. Relatability is a leverage that aids us teachers to meet our students where they are through shared experiences that promote growth and leadership skills.
